The Economist will be responsible for a wide range of data product development, writing and research as Mercaris continues to grow its coverage of new organic and non-GMO commodities and ingredients. A typical week might include: writing a market news report for distribution to Mercaris customers, analyzing price & volume data from our national grain survey, researching new agricultural commodity markets to understand supply, demand and other market fundamentals, or giving presentations on-line or in person to various stakeholder groups.
New Products--The candidate will be responsible for developing price and production surveys, conducting statistical analyses of selected IP food & fiber commodities, and turning raw data into useful products and reports for our clients. The candidate must be familiar with standard data analysis methods and be able to apply these appropriately to a variety of food & feed commodities. He/She will also monitor trends in IP markets to understand both supply and demand drivers.
Candidate should have 3+ years experience in planning and executing economic research, risk management and/or analysis relevant to commodity markets, as well as familiarity with the demands of a start-up company. Candidate must have a Masters in Economics, Agricultural Economics or Natural Resource Economics.
