Manager of Data Partnerships

The Manager of Data Partnerships has the responsibility of recruiting companies into our ongoing on-line survey for organic & non-GMO grain, oilseed and dairy prices, as well as developing relationships with other key data providers.  Examples include organic farm certifiers, grain and dairy handlers, and certain growers.  Overall this person has the critical role of establishing and growing the types, depth, and breadth of data available to Mercaris and its customers.

A typical week would include making sales calls, conducting email outreach, or participating in industry working groups in order to develop relationships with organizations that can contribute data. The Manager of Data Partnerships must be an excellent sales person, able to communicate the value of collaborating with Mercaris. In addition, this person works closely with Mercaris economists to better understand what current data needs are, and then targets recruitment efforts accordingly.  The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial and able to manage multiple projects, understand various data sources and how those sources can contribute to better information, and be willing to think creatively. Strong communications skills (identify, develop, and articulate value proposition) are a must.

This position will report directly to the CEO. While this person will have primary responsibility for engaging data partners, collaboration with our data sales and economic research teams are a frequent part of the job.  Other duties as assigned include:  representing Mercaris at industry events and working groups and editing or drafting short content pieces related to our data products.



Candidates should have 3-5 years of experience in the agribusiness industry, with direct experience in procurement/supply chain or grain merchandising highly desirable. Experience can include graduate studies in business, agribusiness, marketing, etc.  Self-starter who is motivated and active in the quest for information and who takes the lead to close business.


Other Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of physical agricultural commodities supply chains/markets,
  • Familiarity with (or ability to learn quickly) IP commodity supply chains, emerging or thinly traded commodities & ingredients markets;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written);
  • Superior organization and follow-through skills;
  • Comfortable interacting within the industry, from producers to executives of Fortune 500 companies;
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving when it comes to sourcing or creating new sources of data;
  • Strong interest in fostering the development of identity-preserved ag markets;
